Fortune favours the brave and nowhere does that hold true more than Valencia. The Spanish city was founded by Roman soldiers gifted land in retirement as a reward for their bravery. Conor Wilde fetched up there some 2,000 years later, having come through travails of his own.

The Skerries man grew up fishing and helping his father out in his fish merchant business: “Dad was my best friend.” Sadly, his father died prematurely, aged just 46, when Conor was 21. Two years later his mum died, too. “She missed him,” he says.
